Timeline Lynx I Timecode Module Docs
« on: August 03, 2005, 05:55:59 PM »

Hi

I'm sort of 'fed up' with not being able to find Timeline Lynx I Timecode Module documentation anywhere as a pdf.  I have various service bulletins but the actual OPERATING MANUAL seems to exist only on paper.  Lynx II pdf docs are no problem but I deal with Lynx I a lot since they work great on older machines like Ampex MM1200's and 3M M79's

so - here is what I have on paper that I could find easily - I am still digging around for more and later versions

I have an OPERATING MANUAL for Lynx Time Code Module

Software Release: L409-6
Printing Release: 016
Printing Date: 9/2/86

I have an addendum dated 9/16/87 that describes various software additions that came with version 409-5 409-5NB and 409-6 409-6NB softwares

I have cable documents for a few machines
3M M79
AEG M-20
Ampex MM-1200
Ampex ATR-100
Ampex ATR-124

I have a Service Bulletin 92-019 that describes how to convert early Lynx I modules from 128K PROM's to 256K PROM

that's what I have on paper

There are a number of PDF's that already exist for manual supplements to Lynx I Timecode Modules

MS 92-007 about software PROM V500 version 26L
MS 92-010 about the Lynx Gearbox Processor Board
MS 93-004 about Lynx Film Module PROM F500 version 26G
MS 93-006 about software PROM L500 version 26H

I have a PDF for some service bulletins

Service Bulletin 91-008 talks about Bi-phase Lockup Time Improvement (mainly a film thing)
Service Bulletin 92-017 covers the 8032 processor upgrade

and some other PDF's as well

HERE IS THE QUESTION

before I scan about 60 or 70 pages to make a pdf of the operating manual and some other docs I have only on paper for the Lynx I...

1) has anyone done this already and can they share?

2) are there other paper docs that SHOULD be scanned to make this complete?

thanks

P.S. re Lynx I...  if anyone knows what "Kelly Quan" boards are and wants one or two - I have them.

Hi John,

That would be a great idea - as you say, there's very little info around regarding these. I'd consider it a valuable resource if made available as .PDF..!

Here's the only thing I've found till now:

"The Practitioners Guide - Lynx Timecode Module Overview"
http://audio.utac.net/pg/tc/lynx.html

For the MicroLynx, Berklee has the manual online at:
http://classes.berklee.edu/mpe/pdf_files/manuals_pdf/

TL Sync is a completely different product - I've scanned the Timeline Lynx I timecode module docs that I have not already found as pdf's and now I have to batch process them down to some more compact form to make the pdf from - this'll take another month what with all the OTHER distractions

On the link is "TimeLine archives" -- there is one zip file with TIF graphic files.  I have a few more zip files with Lynx1 schematics in TIF format.  Attached is one of the zips I have.

Rail,

Do you have a cable schematic/pinout for ADAT?  I made one cable for my Otari MX70 using a schematic on the Berklee site, but they don't have the pinout for the ADAT cable.  SessionControl offered to sell me one for $300 - uh, no thanks.  I downloaded the zip file you posted earlier but couldn't open any of the TIFFs - Photoshop tells me "Could not complete your request because the TIFF file uses the unsupported GROUP IV compression method."  (Could be my version of Photoshop is too old).

Thanks,

Rick

I'll look around.. but there's one on ebay for about $50 if they haven't sold it yet.  If you're in the LA area you could rent one from Tim Jordan Rentals (or find another rental company which has one) and suss it out yourself.

Rail,

Thanks for the good advice - I have never seen one on eBay before until now, so I just bought it.  I'm in Portland, OR, so the chances of finding a local rental company that would have this cable are pretty small.
