Mr. Gerst has restored my faith in humanity
« on: August 14, 2005, 02:48:00 AM »

Hello Everyone,

This is probably against the rules, and also a little cheeky, but I must relate to you all a story that can shed some light onto Mr. Gerst's sparkling character (please forgive me).

Last week I won an auction on eBay for an Apogee AD-8000 (ok, I know, but I really don't care about going 96k), nicely equipped  with the DAC VIII, etc.  Mr. Gerst had purchased a strobe tuner from the same fellow who sold me the Apogee.  There was a mixup at the post office: I received a strobe tuner, while he received a respectably pricey A/D converter, and we both received panicked phone calls from the seller.  So it was Mr. Gerst's lucky day!  No.  In actuality, it was my lucky day, because had just about anyone else got such a surprise in the mail, I believe that I would have been s.o.l. and seriously hosed at the world.  Mr. Gerst had the A/D to my house in 2 days, and even fronted what I am sure was a pricey shipping bill.  Now, of course, this is all sort of private information or whatever, but I just wanted everyone here who does not know Harvey personally to know that his character is type A1, the rarest; and his word is stronger than oak.

very grateful,

It was really just a label mixup.  I won an ebay auction for a Peterson Strobe Tuner and Joshua won an auction for an Apogee AD8000 from the same guy.  The labels were apparently accidentally switched.  We simply resent the units to each other and the original seller said he'd cover the extra shipping charges.

No big deal, and I think all of us would have done the same thing.

Hi, Joshua.  Thanks for sharing your story.  I've enjoyed your band for a while now and it's cool to see you posting here.  Everyone should check out the Telefon Tel-Aviv site to hear some awesome music!  What software do you guys use to create your music?  Not that it matters really, but I am curious.

Hey Jim Bob

Thanks for listening - it validates our struggle of creation that takes over our lives.  Everyone here probably knows what I'm talking about!  Rock over London, Rock over Chicago.  In general, I really appreciate how cool everyone is here - this is the first truly productive forum that I've ever encountered, and I've already learned alot from just reading everyone else's posts.  Invaluable information you all have!

anhyhow, boring stuff commencing:

Software - ProTools LE, the entire Native Instruments catalog, Pluggo, and Ableton Live.

Hardware:

2 matched Avalon 737sp's, "alan moulder" mod
2 John Hardy M1 (my bread and butter!)
UA 610 (oh my god this is how I like to roll!)
Drawmer 1960
Avalon U5 DI
2 (sequential and matched) Neumann KM184
Neumann TLM103
Soundelux U195 - I use this for everything
2 AKG C451b
2 AKG D112
About 800 sm57's and a couple of beta 58's.

fender rhodes MK1 "seventy-three"
nord micro modular
Dave Smith Evolver
Furman RV1 Spring Reverb
Roland RE-201 Space Echo
Linn Drum (Egyptian Lover Mod)
4ms pedals "Noise Swash"
Fender Quad
Gibson '76 Mahogany Explorer
Loyola University Chamber Orchestra (my personal favorite)

All this crap still fits in my bedroom, except the orchestra.

And now, thanks partly to Mr. Harvey Gerst, all Telefon Tel Aviv musical disasters will be tracked throught the loveliness of an Apogee AD-8000, thank goodness.

Now you can all find out how terrible all this gear sounds by listening to my garbage bag music.

hugses,

_J_
