new virtual keyboard
« on: August 13, 2005, 02:36:18 PM »

this has been out for a few months, maybe a year in case you haven't seen it:

http://www.virtualdevices.net/

it doesn't have a 10-key pad, which is a major setback.

could come in handy at times.  if i end up getting one i'll let the group know if it's any good for anything.

they have a video or two on the site that demos it.  nothing to do with shadows.  in fact the illuminated virtual keyboard is only there for the human's use.  the shining device senses the coordinates of your fingers and interprets if you are trying to type a particular key or not.

looks like it sells for $200

This one is the king of kewl, imo...

Every key of the Optimus keyboard is a stand-alone display showing exactly what it is controlling at this very moment.

Not out yet, hopefully in early '06. I'll buy three the first day they're available...

yeah, those look really cool.  just hope they don't drain too much juice off of the computer's psu or if they are a drag on system performance.  i would guess that once the displays in the keys have been set and loaded they wouldn't take too much system usage other than a few MB of ram.

lcd's do have a viewing angle, so hopefully it will be easy enough to see the displays from the typing position and not just an overhead view.
