I do, though pretty much I'm the only bass player I ever record.  I don't limit/compress because it isn't needed, partially because of 24 bit recording and partially because my style of playing (fairly hard with the fingers) tends to be "limited" by the physics of the instrument.

Can always add processing later during mixdown, but can't remove it.

It always sounds ballsier to me when it doesn't need limiting.

I only limit or compress the bass on tracking when the bassist isn't familiar with recording. The experienced sessionists, know how to use finesse and keep their track levels consistent without going over. You can't play the bass in the studio like most rock performers play it live, the loud stage volume has the bassist attacking the strings harder, this leads to clacking and other non-musical sounds that take away from clarity and note isolation. No amount of limiting or compression can make up for the finesse required for bass on a studio recording.
