That one was a 'software under X$' one. There was a price limit. It wasn't about having to use a specific piece of software. I remember I couldn't use my in-house stuff because it's proprietary, and I had to content myself with 'Amadeus' and 'SoundHack' for lack of niftier software.
WOMP is so we can hear the big leaguers and THEIR toys, and hold that up as a bar. Last year Brad floored me by doing everything I wanted to do, sweeter and better. We've got a number of big leaguers again, and I don't want to hear how well they do limited to 'pro tools'. I want to hear what they REALLY do, and compete with that- because I have to anyway, these guys are not so unaffordable or unavailable as you might think.
I'm not doing a second WIMP (unless it's time for WIMP II). I want to put my science-project mayhem up against kilobucks of sweet gear and truly expert ears, and see what happens. If I can't do that, what is the point?
NO handicapping anybody. If some bigleaguer is going to hand me my head, I want to be able to examine the neatness of the slice so I know what's possible, what's out there.
Besides, be fair- the science project stuff is what I DO, it's not like I have any special gift for running Pro Tools or setting crappy EQs or Waves plugs. I don't _have_ any Waves plugs. My entries always sound pretty unique. I don't want to lose that as I improve.
