Sorry to hear about your friends getting ripped off. The gear will probably be fenced for crack rocks at less than 1/100th of it's worth.  Mad

Mix magazine used to have an on-line equipment rip-off hotline. IIRC, it doesn't cost anything to list the gear, try a google search for it. Also check the A F Of M, they used to have a register for missing gear.

Insurance for gear can be outrageous. I've seen some policies that charge 1/3rd what the gear is worth new, go 3 years without getting ripped and you can buy it all again and the insurance slobs stay out of the profits. For folks that utilize good security and keep an eye on their stuff, saving what you'd pay for premiums in an investment fund is often a better choice, that way "if" something happens not too soon, you've got the dough to keep going. If nothing happens, the dough is still yours. Some insurance companies don't like to hand musical gear as it's one of the items that rip-offs like to steal the most. Thieves look at it as a quick turnover, easy to resell or pawn item. It really sucks because most of the low profile musicians that I know aren't getting paid anymore now than they did 20 years ago.
