Hi,

Anybody or Klaus knows what type of U47 cable is this? Is it the original rubber cable, same as the thick black rubber one?
I attached the pictures.

It is not the first generation cable with the rubberized jacket and four rubberized and colored conductors

But it may be from the second generation, depending on the actual color of the jacket, which you did not mention (the photo shows it as tan-brown).  The construction and colors off the individual conductors would give further clues.

Ah Ok, thanks Klaus. I can't look at the conductors, but knowing it's not the first generation one is sufficient.

When intending to use old cables, have a closer inspection if they are still intact.

Quite often the shield (that serves as ground link too) has many or all wire strands broken, specifically near the connectors where the stress is higher. This might cause all types of problems like noise and crackling.

The best check is resistance measurement with an Ohm meter on all conductors and shield.


The results should be reasonable and uniform (considering length and gauge) and most important, resistance should not change when the cable is moved / shaken.

Very true.  I had to chop a few feet off each end of my sm69 cable and redo the connectors because of exactly this...
