dbx 900 format
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:35:38 AM »

Hi All,

A friend asked me what other manufacturers besides dbx make (or made) modules to fit 900 frames? I think Aphex did, and I have the impression that Valley People did, but I could be wrong about that. Anybody have definitive knowledge?

Thanks,

Seth

Definately Aphex. The Valley Peeps is a no-go.

There are Aphex modules which FIT the dbx rack, but confirm voltages before you assume they will work once in the rack.  I have two Aphex 9000 racks filled with dbx and Aphex modules, and as far as I can recall from when I went through it, the dbx modules want 24vdc bipolar and the Aphex modules want 15vdc bipolar.  There is an Aphex power supply which supplies both voltages and one which only does the 15v.  I have never tried to run the 9000 series Aphex modules in a dbx 900 rack... no idea if they would work.

I am pretty sure that there are earlier (perhaps black faced) Aphex modules that do work, and I know for a fact that BBE made 900 series modules (I owned a few).

I have the 9000 Aphex frame.  It has the two voltages for the different modules and will work with Aphex and dbx modules.  The Aphex modules do use different voltages that are on different pins than the dbx modules, so they will not work in a dbx900 frame.

Interesting...I have a DBX 900 frame that has both DBX and Aphex compressors in it and it works great.

hmmmmm...

I believe that the Aphex stuff (expressors etc.?) would work fine on the lower woltages, but that they COULD also take advantage of higher rails where available.

That's how the new '51X alliance' stuff works: Same as the API 500 series in terms of dimensions etc, but 51X stuff has the option to take advantage of higher rails (

I have the feeling that I have more experience in my little finger than you do in your whole body about audio electronics..

dbx 900 racks provide bipolar 15 AND bipolar 24.
