True ambient and/or process-driven music has a quality I really love, and it's one I find conspicuously absent from what is properly considered "new age" music.

Many of the best "new agers" have done drone/noise/ambient stuff that is beautiful and haunting... Patrick O'Hearn, Steve Roach, Tim Story/Dwight Ashley (the first record Tim did with Rodelius "Lunz" is freaking amazing), Jarre, etc... so much good stuff fractured out of the "new age" movement.
Steve Roach and Robert Rich's "Strata" record is scarily good, too.
Dan Hartman did a record called "New Green, Clear Blue" that is beautiful ambient improvs.
Oh, and Giles Reaves!
