Duka,
Unfortunately, the serial number of C414EBs don't give a clue what capsule may be in the mic. Most EBs I have seen (we are talking here only about the mic with the silver, not black, body!) originally came with the famous CK12 capsule, as used in older AKG tube mics.
However, many a 414 may have gone back to AKG for capsule servicing and automatically would have had a capsule change to the current-style Teflon capsule at that point.
Here is how you can tell which capsule yours has ( this does not require opening the mic up):
Go into a room with little or no light. Point a strong flashlight from the narrow side of the microphone basket at the capsule, so that the ray of light will hit the front or rear diaphragm from the side, rather than head on. You should see one of two prominent features in the light.
Either:
- a bunch of tiny brass screws all around the perimeter of the capsule's diaphragms (old style CK12) or:
- no screws at all, but instead a white plastic halo around the rim of the capsule (new- style CK12, i.e. Teflon capsule)
If you cannot positively identify the capsule this way, open and remove the mic body (still no danger to hurt the capsule) and look for a couple of thin white plastic coated wires which go directly from the mic amp to the capsule head. If they are present, you have the Teflon capsule.
Kind regards,
