8 Input Interface (To Replace a LynxOne)
« on: October 03, 2007, 08:11:37 PM »

Hi folks,
I currently use a LynxONE on my Mac. Still stuck in OS 9.2!
I got a Fostex 8 Track and want to use that so i need an 8 channel Interface, not sure if Firewire or PCI is best.
I have  TL Audio 2051 Tube pre so preamps not essential(Although a couple would be cool)
What unit would have the converter quality of the Lynx? Any of the popular ones? Echo,Terratec......?

PCI (e, x, whatever) is a faster bus than firewire.

Lynx is good stuff, but not if you're having problems with their drivers.

RME comes to mind. They have a number of options with eight line inputs.

Metric Halo.
And on a budget.... the Echo Audiofire 12 is hip.

Thanks for the info,
How would the converters on these compare to the LynxONE?
And should i try to stick to a PCI card?

IMHO, absolutely stick to PCI.

I am more than happy putting up with a tad more latency to have my soundcard be firewire.
benefits:
can swap over to a new host computer in seconds. Try that with a PCI card!
will also function with my laptop.
Less likely to get fried by a rogue power supply.
drawbacks
firewire is still dodgy on some PCs.
Windows XP needs a fix to utilize firewire at full speed.
