Craigslist - Opinion?
« on: June 26, 2007, 04:26:46 PM »

What does everyone thing about using Craigslist verses Ebay to sell things. I've got some equipment I need to sell and I'm tired of paying listing and selling fees, plus Pay Pal fees.

Anything to watch for or do/not do?

I know that with Craigslist, you can sell/buy/see listings in a specific area (zip code) if desired. I've had much success with them.

yea, same here, i sold a few things and had many
interested local parties.

All of whom paid cash...without much haggling.
I fleshed out a few tire kickers via email first,
but the majority of folks were serious.

The trick is to find a spot to meet that is close
to each party and has electricity to try the gear,
if audio/electronics stuff is the stuff your selling that is?
I dont like the idea of having an unknown knowing
where i live and what i might be selling...
known unknowns or unknown unknowns?

but like anything that gets some popularity, it
seems the scammers and dbags come out of the woodwork
eventually.

You Know?

i buy off of craigslist all the time. i got a plate reverb that needed the driver to be repaired for $free.99; buying a nord keyboard tomorrow off craigslist. got 5 rca ba-series tube preamps for 100 each. way too many bargains to even mention.

of course, cash only. you will probably get western union scammers after you. the tirekickers do weed themselves out on email.

What about money orders for non-local buyers?

In my mind, craigslist is only for local transactions, face-to-face.

I would definitely avoid any transaction involving mail or money orders, on craigslist.

Which is what they suggest anyway...
