Interesting software tool
« on: March 08, 2006, 02:42:27 PM »

The unique thing about this soft is that it can start up a waveform generator and you can drop in any VST to view both a FFT and Nyquist reconstruction including sampling points (enhanced oscilloscope) of what the VST is doing.  Therefore you can see how the plug handles various waveforms while playing with the plug's settings and input levels.

This guy's soft is apparently in final beta and you can get it free for the time being.  It's actually pretty good on the analysis side once you start messing with it - sort of a RMAA type thing for plugins.  Kinda cool for evaluating/comparing plugs from the objective point of view.

If you try it be sure to zoom in on the waveform in the oscilloscope to see both the sample points and the reconstruction curve.  It'll also FFT/scope ADC input.

Do you have a link to the beta, I'll give it a try.

EDIT

Never mind, I see the dowload tab on the url that you gave.

Ok, I tried installing it and got a message box saying that This application isn't suitable for running DOS and Microsoft  Windows applications. Click Yes to abort the installation. It also has an Ignore button, not knowing if this is going to screw up one of my DAW's and not being puter savvy enough to get it back to normal, I'll believe I'll pass on it. Thanks anyway.

I didn't see anything like that when I installed on a XP machine.  But yeah, I'd pass too if I saw that!

[edit] The more I mess with it the buggier I find it to be.  Has some nice features for taking an objective look at plugs, but definitely beta-ware...
