Studio Electronics C2 "1176 meets 1272"?
« on: November 05, 2004, 07:39:15 PM »

I know that the original(rev B through D) and the current UA re-issue of the 1176 use the same 3055 power transistor in the output amp as the 1272 / BA283 does... so...is this combination in the SE C2 anything beyond marketing hyperbole?

Has anyone had any experience with it?

actually   2N3053  which is a T0-5 can.  Not the same as and 2N3055 - which is a T0-3 package.  The similarity is that both the Class A 1176 versions and all of the Neve class A equipment pulls dc through the output transformer.

That's what you get for reading GIF schematics!

Looking in my Towers Transistor selector I see the 3053 is a 700ma to the 3055 15A device, for starters....

I've used the Purple Audio MC76, and it's all there!

Have you heard the SE C2?

I spoke to a studio owner who is selling his C2. He says that it sounds great, very fat. He has used it on Mini Moog bass, kick and snare. He says that the metering sucks (10 LED with large gaps between them) and the knobs are too touchy, and it would be difficult to recall the settings because of this.
I have asked a friend in the city where that C2 lives to go over and check it out for me....

I would like to hear one sometime too....
