Title: Media for Tascam DV-RA 1000
Post by: Alexaudio on October 26, 2005, 05:53:00 PM
We are about to commit to buying a Tascam DV-RA1000.  After evaluating our needs, cost factor, etc - we have found this piece to be an excellent fit.  Question remains however, is this unit sensitive to particular DVD+RW media?  Fred B's review in Pro Audio Review suggests that it is...however I have heard at the AES that it works well with many name brand DVD+RWs.  We have been testing it with Sony DVD+RW without a hitch.  However, the cost factor for Sony's is a little high since I have been grabbing it at Staples.  One of two media suppliers we use has Verbatim DVD+RW.  Should I be concerned before buying a few spindles?

I've been using the Memorex DVD+RW, but have had quite a few unreadable disks on my G5 and G4 computer. They should be compatible, but I suggest trying a few others before you commit to them.

One of the local rental houses here in LA has them, but I know they have spent a lot of time trying to find media that is reliable.  Unfortunately, I don't know the results of that search other than it has been a bit trying at times...

It is also more of an issue at high-res as the data throughput is much higher.  At standard resolutions (24 bit/44.1K for example), there is a lot out there that works...
