Title: WUMP 22 Sign Up
Post by: aivoryuk on November 17, 2010, 04:51:15 PM
Hi all

On behalf of our regular Wumper administrator ATOR it's that time again for another WUMP.

The last 2 have been electonic based so I think it would be nice for something different, so if you feel you have something suitable then please let me know by sending a PM with a link to the mix.

Kick off will be Saturday 4th December
with a deadline of  Monday 13th December

Participating in the WUMP means that you:
- make the best master you can in ten days time
- upload your master the last day of the deadline, not before, to the WUMP FTP folder
- download and comment on the other masters of your group
- post what you did to the mix
- discuss the outcome

There will be no revisions.

There's no limit to the number of participants, everyone gets in. If we're gonna have more than 15 participants we'll split up in groups for the commenting part. If so I'll post the group line-up the day after the deadline.

The WUMP FTP info will be sent to you in a PM.
You’ll need an FTP client to up-/download the files. Here are some freeware versions:
PC: Filezilla
Mac: Cyberduck

Format master:
- 16bit 44.1kHz WAV
- name: WUMPXX-yourname.wav (XX is the WUMP number)

To keep things simple and transparent we go with named files. If you feel that knowing the names will compromise your judgment you could find a way to listen blind.

Just to keep you all updated the mix supplied for this WUMP has come from Scott (More Space Echo) who initially signed up for the WUMP but who now will be taking a back seat and acting as the client (thanks kindly Scott).

Brad has kindly supplied me with the FTP details (thanks Brad) so we are ready for kick off time on Saturday.

I've always let the WUMP go by and felt like I should have participated...

Well, since it looks like I'll have a light week on the books I guess I'm in.

Morning all

Hopefully you all should have had an pm from me detailing the FTP details and master request.

If you haven't then apologies, just send me a message and I'll send over the details.

Have fun with it all.

Cheers to Scott for the mix and to Brad for hosting.

Thanks

Alex

I thought kick off was scheduled on Saturday 4th December… Are the entries still due Monday 13th December?

Best regards,
Gert

oops, sorry I must have got my weeks messed up damn my little 8 week baby who had me up at 5 this morning.  Embarassed

Well, unless anybody objects the deadline of 13th December still stands, so it gives people an extra week to complete it. Not everyone who signs up finds time within the ten days so at least you will have the mix a bit longer. No one should be submitting their master before the 13th anyway.

Cheers

Alex

what i'd like from the mastering...just make it sound better! give it a little life.

"Give it a little life"? Given the title of the track, that's quite a contradictory statement...
Good luck to all involved!

Best regards,
Gert

OK, one question arise:

Do you want this to sound like the mix or do you want it to sound like "anything and everything". I mean - is the mix an artistic statement, a style, a sound, or are there expectations for it to alter beyond it's own "tonality"?

Or to make it easier: Do you expect objective or subjective work on this piece?

Best Regards
Patrik

uuuuuhhhhhhhh......aren't all mixes artistic statements? isn't all mastering subjective?

not really sure what you're asking. it seems like you're saying you think the mix sucks and you're trying to be polite about it. that's cool. it sounds good to me, but what do i know. if you think it sucks and that you can make it not suck by twisting knobs x, y, and z, then have at it.

No, no, I don't think it sucks! I thought you were unsatisfied with something because of your earlier phrase here above.

Then all is cool.

Best Regards
Patrik

ah ok! yeah, i was just being self-deprecating above.

in general i would say make the master sound like the mix, just better. should be a pretty straightforward mastering IMO...but if anyone really has a hankering to get drastic with it, go for it! i probably won't like the result, and won't be shy about expressing my dislike <g> but it'll be entertaining to listen to nonetheless.

I'm gonna have to bow out of this one since my DAW computer died a week ago. I've ordered a new box but it won't show up until right around Christmas and then I'll have the (joyful) task of reloading all my audio h/w & s/w.

Ya'll have fun...

Hi all

Just a few hours left to post your entries for the WUMP.

I have 24 people signed up (15 on the server so far) so I will be splitting this up into 2 (maybe 3) groups which I will do tomorrow once the deadline has passed so as to get the groups even,

If you are feeling brave then you can comment on all the entries.

Hope you have all had fun playing with with this one.

Alex

Only one of us (so far) seems to have gone through the trouble of editing the plosives in the a capella intro… Nice one, Ed!
