Title: Algorithmix Blue - Red - orange
Post by: Ged Leitch on July 12, 2006, 08:34:34 AM

So I just tried the Blue yesterday...

Yes, it does sound good!

in fact it sounds like theres no eq processing going on at all!

But, I dunno if there was much of a difference between that and the RED / Orange. Not the filter choice, the sound!

But, wow, I think those guys at Algo are totally untouched when it comes to software EQ's.

To me the great thing about the Algo's is that the mix still retains its original vibrancy and depth no matter how you eq it.
The EQ always sounds so damn clean.

I only wish they had M/S options like the PLP though.

I'm curious to try them... thing is, at $1200 US per EQ, I wouldn't need a whole lot more money to buy a decent analog EQ... say, a Millenia NSEQ-2.

Of course there's that whole convenience thing with plugins... automation, recall, offline processing... hmm...

You can set up and M-S matrix in your DAW and apply the Algorithmix plugs to the M and S busses.  The plugs maintain phase coherency across multiple instances, so it should work out fine.

Cheers Alan,

Yeh this worked great in samp, but need to upgrade my RAM as the red Algo EQ eats up a ton of memory...

I think the Algorithmix plugins are insanely overpriced ...

To my ears this one http://www.refinedaudiometrics.com/products-plpareq.shtml  sounds better and cleaner ...

It's almost the exact same price!

2500 EUR vs 1000 $ ? Or did Algorithmix lower the price recently ?

Ah my mistake Ivo, thought the PLP was 1000

PLPAR EQ is excellent in many ways, but as far as sounding "cleaner" then algo, i don't know if i agree on that one,
refined audiometrics does however know their stuff and the way they handle their linear phase with the feedback system so the phase unwinds itself is brilliant. saves alot of computing power, but not money Smile

If I could ever work these into my workf-low, I might actually try them. Might do so anyway for the occasional D-D session...

Hi guys,

please let me add the Electri-Q eq plug another time. The new version 1.5.3 has an added Linear Phase function, and now it is really an extremely good one.
You can add 64 points to the curve, and...you can give every curve point a different habit ( a lot are built in ).

Norbert

P.S.: Unfortunately no M/S up to now, but the best built in Analyzer tool I have seen ever.

Hi,

i love the Red and Orange, using them every day and bundeled
they are cheaper about 2000 euro.
i tested the "blue" a couple of days and have to say i is too
clean to be analog. i don´t hear analog sound, maybe the filter curves and behaviour are designed like some old EQ´s but the sound
is still soo clean.

any other opinios ?

i prefer to use the Algos for correction and like them more then my
ex EQ1Mks LP, they are much better.
For analog sound and behaviour i i use "analog equipment" !

But i have to try a bit more de Refined Audiometrix. It seems to
be great to. Especially the MS possibility is great.

greetings

andreas

i've been keeping almost daily contact with christian budde on the development of his electri-q, pointed out a few bugs , especially in his linear phase modes.
and lemme tell ya, this baby is gonna give algo and plpar a real run for their money when he's done with the upgrades he has in plan

i've asked him and he is still undecided on making two seperate plugs, one for winamp, and one extremely highend for mastering, or just sticking to the highend models for mastering and or mixing

I just hope it sounds better than Poshifit if thats what its called.
It sounded ok'ish, but man!, what a fiddly GUI.
As for competing with Algo or PLP, well thats no mean feat!
Best of luck to him I say!!!
We need more better Digital EQ's imo.

i've been demoing the plp for the last week or so and im getting more impressed with it especially with the m/s options the fact that you don't need a seperate plugin for converting to m/s is really good imo
its very easy to use lots of options, and sounds really good

not tried the algo as yet but may do so in the next few weeks
