Interesting.
I kind of wish CD's had a visual component to them, that way I could understand what they're singing.
As a kid (and for years after) I thought the Queen song was, "Another one rides the bus". :-\

I was aware that visuals influence your hearing but thats a crazy effect :)
Don`t watch the meters! ;D

very cool stuff..

Makes me wonder about all those mastering studios that put large video monitors and fill the screen with an array of meters for the clients.

A very enlightening video.
We already know that ~critical listening~ is King.
Music and audio... it's an ear thing.
Occasionally referring to a meter or analyzer... when needed.
Although we've been over this topic many times on the forums,
it's always a good reminder.

one of my fav things ever....
humans are great platform for hacking
-
That's pretty weird. More disturbing to me is that I've probably been singing the wrong lyrics....how embarrassing.

If you ever get the chance, go hear Jim Johnston speak about audio perception. The ear is very easy to fool.

Sounds awesome! Oh it was bypassed all along.

Truly fascinating! Thanks for sharing.

That's very eye-opening and thought provoking. Thanks for posting it as well.

Thanks for the education!
Just made a surround mix of a solo chello SACD production. When I balanced the center channel with my eyes closed I would put it much louder then when I was looking at the center speaker.
With eyes open it just folds into the speaker sooner... maybe because the brain knows that black thing is the source?
btw, I'm waiting for the first mockup video on youtube actually making Queen sing "another one fights the fuzz" :-))
Cheers, Bastiaan

I saw this uite some time ago, I wondered if this relates more to speech and language/ visual communication cues processing than music.
-
It basically says you can trick your brain into believing anything.

The only thing usable in mastering is the MacGyver effect.
Is that when you master a record with an EQ made of Duct tape and paper clips, or when you cut tape with your trusty swiss army knife?

Great post by the way Brad. Keeps in mind to keep one's eyes away from their screen.
