Title: Pendulum Audio OCL-2
Post by: Alécio Costa - Brazil on March 13, 2005, 10:36:16 PM
Hi,

Do you guys use the OCL2? Some time ago Brad and DC commented that this is a nice box.

Would it be a nice start for the junior mastering guys  who  intend to leave the plug-in world?

In which source material do you end up using it instead of  your other boxes?

Would it be fine for tracking too?

thanks again

I was going to get one.  I walked up to Greg G (owner of Pendulum) at the Tape Op convention.  I told him I wanted to get one of his compressors because I needed something "blue" in my rack.  He didn't blink.  He didn't laugh, he just started talking about the compressor.

I've since picked up a Tube Tech because they make Blue rack gear.

What do you mean?  You don't think I know how to run this shit do you?  I just put every knob on 5 and make coffee.  The clients don't know the difference.  I got this great plug in from Funk Logic that has that Bob Ludwig setting.  I use that and the L1 limiter thingy all the time.  The other trick is to put a little bit of flange or reverb on EVERYTHING that comes it.  I don't know, it just sounds so ... polished?

No, it all sounds the same to me.  So, I figure if I have a Requisite (dark red) and those Oakland Raider Silver and Black Manley things, and then the Neon CraneSong things and a bunch of other stuff... well, I was totally without ANYTHING blue.  I don't know how I survived.

Like I said, I had to get a Tube Tech (because they are blue) because the color imbalance was un-bearable.

Cheers,
Garrett

Garrett, you slay me sometimes...

Now you have me thinking, I might need some Focusrite Red stuff, even though I've never dug the way it sounds...

Busted.

(I really put everything on 7, then I make coffee)....

I got the Tube Tech based on weird rec from a tracking friend and I've been reasonably pleased with it.  In fact, I pulled my Vari Mu  out and replaced it with the Tube Tech.

For those of you who say the VM is the second coming of Elvis, you haven't heard mine.  Mine is evil and demented.  Yours is probably nice.  I got the one bad one so leave me be.

They used to go farther, but the US dollar is barely worth anything.  I tried to buy some gear from the UK and the knobs only went to 4.85!

Lol I visited a local community radio station a few years back to find out why everything sounded like run through a meat grinder..they proudly showed me their master comp in "Bypass Mode", with all knobs neatly pointing to 12 o'clock, just like the tone controls on a HiFi...and then I went nad had some coffee.

You dunno why did they number it L1, L2 and L3?
Because you ought to use them cascaded like:
L1 > L2 > L3

Thanks Brad!

For sheer transparency, nothing (sans Funk Logic equipment, that is) beats the Focusrite Red 0. You should check it out, it will give you that "RED" in your rack that you're looking for.

Probably not. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&i tem=3776923358 - A 'vintage' Red 0 went for 50GBP [/jumping-jesus emoticon]

FWIW, I like the Red EQ, mostly for the high shelf and low-mid band ..  and the Blue 230 compressor is very nice. .. and very blue.

However, I'm lacking in orange gear. In my rack, I've clearly got the other Bozo-the-Clown-colors covered.. and that Crane Song ill-green glow..   Something orange would put me over the top.

FYI, the RED 0 is a blind rackplate to fill up gaping holes between other Focusrite RED products. It has identical sonical properties to the Funk Logic range, sans the VU meters.

The guy wanted more RED, right? It's as good a red in a rack as anything else...

Regarding the Focusrite RED series, for the last two weeks I've been using one of their preamps as a talkback solution. That's my personal opinion on those units. AMEK Purepath CIB's did the real job, meanwhile.

Sincerely,

Tomas Danko

Geez - and here I was really wanting to get a black face plate made for my  Lavry Blue so that it would match the Medici, Filtek, NTP, and Coleman stuff sitting in the same rack!  Kind of going for the "man in black" / Darth Vader / Dieter from Sprockets look to all my gear - somehow it fits NYC well.   Very Happy
hmmm... looks like an API2500 will fit right in with my "color scheme" too.
