Title: sittin here mixin'...
Post by: typek on July 28, 2009, 05:01:26 PM
Hey guys,

So I'm sittin here in my room mixing away, and i decide to go and have a little break to... ya know, expand the mind a bit. I came back and really started noticing differences in my mix, but as a function of the volume. Unfortunately my space is tight, and my monitors are only about 3 ft. from my head, which i can't do much about. So I popped the ol SPL meter out and at 71-73dBc my mix sounds better (more "together" and solid) than at around 85dBc when the low end starts to mud up a bit and things start to come apart.. I'm wondering how much of this is my actual mix, or my sitting position?

or maybe i just... shouldn't have indulged during mixing? Smile

What volumes do you guys feel the most comfortable mixing at? Any general volume things you follow by?

Sounds like your room is talking back to your mix and causing phase problems. Do you have treatment in your room? Especially for the low end?
