Title: AES cable type?
Post by: marcel on April 03, 2010, 05:14:47 PM
Hi:

Can regular mic cable (I think it's Canare, with Neutrik ends) carry AES signal over a 6' run without issues?

I have to do a quick master, so I'm gonna dust off the Masterlink and put the Lavry Blue A/D/A around it to capture and monitor at 44.1/16 while Alsihad plays out at 48/24.

Thanks.

a well-made canare should handle it fine, even though some may disagree, if it sounds fine it is fine.

Capacitance of the cable is the issue, but for a small run, you can often get away with "dirty digital."
