Title: How to detect re-skin?

I have a Neuman M149 that to me sounds just a tad on the shrill side on some vocalists. I bought the mic used a few years ago and it has worked fine except for the shrill sound. It really works well on rich-sounding acoustic instruments such as upright bass and piano but on vocalists alto and above the upper mid-range is just too forward. I can usually roll the offending range back with EQ, but we are more likely to use other mics that sound good without EQ assistance.
     I got to wondering if the capsule on this M149 has been re-skinned.  I checked the numbering system and it seems to conform with capsule ID techniques mentioned on this forum  in the past.
  Are there any tell-tale giveaways?

Yes, there are, but I'd rather not reveal them, not to give it away to fakers. Please post a close-up of both sides of the capsule, and it should be quite clear.

Another suggestion: reverse the capsule and listen to the rear wired as cardioid. If you like it better, turn the capsule around.

I’ll take a photo and send it.  I guess that’s a good idea, re-skin or not.
