Well, time to 'beef up' the new forums...  :)

Here's mine.
These forums should require posters to be registered with their full real names

I don't mind screen names that aren't people's real names, so long as a person's real name and commercial interests are visible in their profile. Some people don't like their every forum post being instantly googleable, which would be the consequence of actually using their real name as login.

(edit apparently this forum doesn't have a "real name" field. dang)

Yes, that's my concern.

Guess I'll be going back to mainly lurking and only occasionally posting, since I find the aforementioned googleability problem fairly offputting.

As far as I can tell, that is the firm policy for posting in the live sound forums, but is not explicitly stated in the masthead for these forums.

The use of real names has been the standard practice on the live sound BB for years and has helped reduce drive-by ad hominum attacks and people making career damaging fools of themselves publicly (most times).

Using aliases really does not prevent the community from figuring out who is saying what, if contentious or libelous enough.

They only clearly state the real names rule for the Live sound forums, so perhaps wait for confirmation of your interpretation of policy before leaving dodge. This software transition has left much to be desired in effective communication and reducing negative impact on members.

PS:  There may be some issue related to combining all forums under one umbrella but i won't make ASSumptions.

Damn this place is a mess... I tried to find Bruno's post to put this under but here is a perhaps clarification of the real names issue for confused members (like who isn't).

A registration at PSW is for all the forums. Because real names are required in the SR forums anyone who wants to post in both will have to use their real name in the REP forums. This has not been true in the past.

So my take on this is that you may be able to keep using odd aliases, as long as you "don't" post in the live sound forum.

I don't know if they frown on people using two different log-ins but if one is so concerned about concealing their real name, that is one possible option for posting in both areas, while there aren't many to dabble in both worlds.
