Title: Peluso MX 56 supply questions
Post by: industrial arts on April 20, 2011, 10:46:31 PM
A friend has a Peluso MX 56 supply and was wondering if it could be used on any of his Neumann mics.  I wasn't sure and think not, the Hi voltage pin (pin 1) on the 7 pin xlr is +104v and the heater voltage (pin 3) is 5.65.  There is no voltage on pin 3, pins 4 & 7 appear to be ground, 5 & 6 are signal.

I'll be the first to admit I'm not well versed in all the various flavors of Neumann mics, so any ideas or help is much appreciated.

On the low (heater) voltage you could trim down to 4.00 VDC for AC 701 heaters, or 5.00 VDC for the rare Neumann mics with 7586 Nuvistors, but the sticking point will be the high voltage:

The lowest standard B+ voltage a stock Neumann Tube mic will accept is 120VDC.
