Title: Speakercable extender
Post by: ziggy on October 14, 2009, 03:47:54 AM
greetings!

i am looking for a divice similar to the little labs std, but not to extend guitar-lines, but speaker cables in our studio. does such a thing exist?

i suspect, that running speaker loads via mic/line cables won't work, but maybe there is such a solution. the plan would be to have the head in the control-room and the speaker in our live-room.

thank you!

Bad idea for so many reasons.

Just pass some proper speaker cables through the wall, terminate them on your panel with Speakon connectors or jacks and label them up.

Then you know that they're fit for purpose, they're dedicated and everyone knows what they are.  Smile

I would actually recommend you go for 10awg. cable or lower [though it is often difficult to find 8awg... and 6 is even harder].

How long a run are you thinking of doing?

hi fletcher

we need 3 lines, 5, 8 and 20 meter. the longest one is going from studio 1 to studio 2, thats why it needs to be so long.... its not something that is absolutely necesary, we can go to the other room to tweak the amp, but it would be nice to have the head in the controllroom. will the sound get a lot worse with the 25 meters? and if yes, is there anything we could do?

thanks for taking the time!

25 meters is a LONG way!!  5m and 8m I would do with 10awg. but before I tried 25m I would pose the question in Dave Hecht's tech forum... the biggest concern is popping the output transformer on the amplifier... someone there should know best way to go about devising a solution that will meet your intention.

FWIW, I've generally found that having the head out in the room and having the player get the sound in the room where it will be played is a better work flow for me than having the head in the CR... but not always.

Peace.

And sometimes a head ON a cabinet couples in the right way.

Sometimes it couples in the wrong way too.

Hrm.
