Mastering seems to be part art and part science
with some gifted individuals who have talent
in both areas. In addition, it would seem that "mastering"
has gone through significant changes throughout the history of recording. Thus, it seems that it is extremely important that they keep up-to-date with the ever evolving technology.
Some have a command over most, or all, formats, some may not have that command. But as the technology has changed, there may be unsung heroes out there, those who do not receive the accolades of the press and trade mags, those who are not famous or part of the usual suspects.
For example, if someone asked me for a reference to a good mastering engineer in Spain, or many other countries for that matter, I'd be at a total loss and not much help to the questioner.
So here, in this this thread, we can talk about the great mastering engineers all over the world and throughout history.
And, by all means, share any funny stories you are aware of.
