Title: Tascam 388 in San Diego

Hello,
Steve ALbini is GOD. I love this machine, but when I came back from Hawaii for 3 years, something does not work. When I press play nothing happens, or if anything the tape slows down to a stop. I can rewind and forward ok. Any ideas? Also Does anyone know who can do servicing on this machine in San Diego?  thanks

Maybe a drive belt has decayed and snapped or something. I don't know if there are separate belts for play and FF/RW, but you might want to open it up and check the shape of the belts. Another thing is that if your tape is shedding it will gum up the works and stop the transport. This will often give you a squeaking sound too.
