Title: Using D17 capsule in D12 ?
Post by: Mike Diack on March 16, 2011, 04:41:20 PM
Is it possible to attach the bass chamber from a dead D12 capsule to a (good) D17 capsule to effect the repair of the D12 ?
Cheers
Mike

Is it the same element on both mics?  If so, I don't see why not.  I've taken capsules from MD403s to replace MD409s with good results.

Hi Mike,
No, it would not work, although the structure itself is the same.  Firstly, D17 has a different diaphragm similar to D19B giving totally a different sound. Secondly the rear-wave damping/filtering is different meant to attenuate bass. So you would not get a D12 sound. Nevertheless, you would get a nice sounding mic, provided certain adjustments with the damping are made.
