Dan, what are the differences btween a MKII and MKIII? Can a MKII be upgraded to MKIII status? Thanks.

mk III has much improved cooling (what increases reliability in long-term) over mk II that runs really hot.
sonically they are identical.
upgrade costs around $ 2200 or slightly more

Actually, the price for a Mk2 to Mk3 upgrade is $1,800 US.

The MKIII is certainly cooler and more relaible. Less heat does impact the performance, and some hardware changes also do improve the operation and the sonics. The software is the same for both units.

Thanks Dan and the other posters. I found a used MKII and I may send it in for the MKIII upgrade.
