Title: dangerous ribbons
Post by: maxdimario on March 31, 2005, 07:48:36 AM
The magnets in ribbon microphones are very powerful, as anyone who has tried to place two big ribbon mics close together knows.

It makes sense that powerful magnets should be kept away from transformers and tape heads.

Wouldn't it make sense to store ribbon mics as far as possible from any mic which has a transformer in it?

how about closely spaced mics such as in an MS setup?

wouldn't the proximity of the ribbon's magnet to a condenser mic cause possible magnetization of the output transformer?

If so, wouldn't it be neccesary to keep a ribbon mic away from itself? Laughing
