Title: Ladies and Gentleman; Boys and Girls... Welcome to Fenway Park
Post by: Fletcher on April 19, 2004, 02:26:39 PM
For the last two and a half years I ran the forums formerly known as “recpit”. It was a damn fun two and a half years. I also had a forum on “recpit” called “Yeah, what”, the name of the forum started from the first day of getting the feel for what we were doing in the old PSW office in Massachusetts… it was never meant to stick, but stick it did.

As time marched on, I learned a hell of a lot, and I do mean a hell of a lot. During my several years of posting on Usenet and various other internet forums it has become remarkably apparent to me just how little I know about the art and science of recording.  I have been very fortunate in having been able to take away ideas and suggestions for techniques to which I would not have been exposed without this sort of forum thing.  I think this is without a doubt the strongest asset these kinds of forums can bring to the community.

The other day my daughter was listening to a ‘Velvet Underground’ record. As I walked past her room the line “I guess I just don’t know, I guess that I just don’t know” came through the speakers, out her door, into the hall… and smacked me in the face [no pun intended if you happen to know the song from which that lyric came]… it seemed like a good name for the new forum [

Fenway Park?

Isn't that where the Yankees play?

Ya know.... The GOOD team. The one that always wins.

HAHAHAHA.

Hello Fletcher.

Glad to be here.

On my best behavior of course.....

That 'other guy' is gonna stay over at the MARSH.

XOXOXO

Tim.

Fletcher, you were one of the first people on RAP that had knowledge AND a very entertaining writing style. You drew me in to the world of net posting. Much thanks. Best, with the new digs here. Rock the fuck On.

Good one, Z!

I think a fresh start can be a good thing; leave the baggage at the pit. Some fresh faces here. That Tim Gilles guy appears to be a drummer. He probably doesn't know how to record distorted guitars. Pity.

Smile Looks good. I've never posted anywhere on RecPit, but I've been a reader and lurker for over 2 years. Out of respect for the professionals, I thought it better to just listen, and learn. I've learned alot from y'all, too. Why post now? To say hi. And I know a bit more, and my little home studio has grown. I'm an old rock guitarist  and I play alot more than guitar now, and recording is my passion.

I was screaming in anguish upon learning of my beloved recpit's demise, but all has subsided now. This looks like it's going to be f**cking incredible! Thank you Fletcher and all who have returned. BTW, I used to be jjungkurth and have changed the name. I'm only going to say it once.

Glad to have finally gotten through re-registration. A little frustration not knowing that I had to be approved before I could upload my avatar (wouldn't go anywhere without the duck), but I'm better now.

Cool place - like the hardwood floors and all that. Sounds better than the old room - less flutter echo. Cool!

Fenway Park?

Couldn't you have picked a little more exciting venue?  I mean, baseball is so fucking boring!

Go ahead.  Call me an uncoordinated, artsy, navel gazing, geek fuck.  I can take it! Very Happy
Believe it or not, there are a few of us freaks out here who just don’t dig the sports.

Nothing like starting out my first post on the right foot.  Razz

I'll just be running for cover now........ Embarassed Dead

Great to be here Fletch!  Cool

Yeah I`m more of a basketball/football fan myself.

But Fenway rings better than the Fleet center.

Should have kept it the Boston Garden.

I hate corporate names for ballparks.

Anyway the new place is very nice so far. I can move around here a lot quicker which was the only thing I didn`t like about the old house.

Great job Fletcher!

I hear that.  I almost went out last night to the new Citizens Bank Park, which is spitting distance away from Lincoln Financial Field.  Kinda embarrassing if you ask me.

I heard that the original name for Lincoln Financial field was supposed to be "Lincoln Center".  As funny as that would have been, i can't imagine Wynton would have been very happy.

I don't know about you ace... but I do music for a living... that's not entertainment, that's a day at a different office... for me, entertainment is watching overpaid millionaire assholes playing a kids game [actually, we're huge AAA baseball (Pawtucket Red Sox) fans at the office... those guys actually give a shit for only like double what we make at our joint] as oppossed to watching underpaid, poverty stricken musicians playing their lungs out trying to be overpaid millionaire assholes selling truck loads of T-shirts... or worse, senior citizen millionaire assholes doing a 401/k tour... nuh-uh gotta pay me to see one of those [scary part is... they do!!].

Football is fun [go Patriots!! (the other residents of Foxboro, MA, if they weren't there first, I'd swear they moved their to be closer to M-A)]... but it's only once a week...

Basketball?  Go to Mixerman's forum, the last two minutes are fun to watch, the first 46 minutes are about as much fun as watching paint dry... and hockey?  Please.  Rather watch Soccer... it's cheaper than Placidil, and has a similar effect.

Now if anyone can explain the rules to Australian rules football to me I'll be absolutely amazed... watched that fuckin' game for a decade and haven't been able to even remotely grasp anything resembling a rule.

It's unfathomable how someone can claim Football to be a fun sport, while dissing hockey as boring?!

How about those Bruins huh, Fletcher?    Razz

All I can say is...

GO LEAFS....as for baseball, I've always been partial to the cavernous artificial eggspace of skydome as opposed to the comfortable, cozy outdoor confines of Fenway...

The new digs look nice, and feel great...I can see this starting to be a nice womb to hang out in....

Fenway?  I lived two blocks away, the stadium lights would shine through my window.

Now I live in the City that is upset because they changed the name from Pac Bell Park to SBC Park.  I think it is all phone-y.

Nice new digs.

Looking forward to seeing where it goes.   Thumbs Up

Yeah and the Basketball comment too. Theres more action in 2 minutes of Basketball than 4 hrs of basesball. Baseballs actually less exciting than GOLF to me.

You heard me! GOLF! Shocked

Fenway Park?

Dodger Stadium!! circa 1971.
My brother and I (11yrs old) went in the elevator after getting Dodger Dogs and rode up w/ Vin Scully. We were like "It's VIN SCULLY!!!!!!" We asked him to sign our baseball. He replied, "you kids know who I am?" "YOU'RE VIN SCULLY!!!!" I think it blew his mind as much as ours.

Great new forum. Hope to learn even more. If I don't chime in, know I'll be lurkin' about.  Very Happy

Medical Diagnostic Imaging Center on Park Avenue, N.Y.C....Circa 1991:

Guy getting an exam in an adjacent room to my exam room looks VERY familiar to me. I inquired "You sure look like Raoul Felder" (famous divorce lawyer). He replied "people have said that to me". After he left the office, I took a look at my imaging buddie's logbook, and sure enough...it really WAS him. Sneaky Bastit'!!   ---Lee

Best of luck with this forum, guys!!

It's an honor to spend time with some of the most renowned AE 's and recording people/gear-sluts/innovators of our time. (I know you're in there somewhere!)

You guys teach me a lot and maybe I can teach you something too.

Your advice are ruining me though. *sigh*

Get going Fletcher.

Hey Fletcher

Was it your tab that paid for all that Bass Ale I was drinkin' down at The Lakeside Lounge last October?

Nothing goes together like an open bar & a good public transportation system!

Later!

Hey Fletcher,

Enjoyed your previous forum a lot... looking forward to things here. Having grown up in Burlington, Vermont, I used to make the 3-hour drive to Boston a lot, especially when I wanted to look at high-end gear (keyboards at that time) at E.U. Wurlitzer or Daddy's Junky Music. Great town, especially at the time of day when the Citgo sign is lighting up just as you're heading into the city over the Mass Ave bridge.

Now I share a coastal California tourist trap with vacuum tube mad scientist "Stayne," and one of his bastard children, a preamp-cum-opto-comp built into an old Heathkit oscilloscope chassis, sits next to my screen as I write this.

Peace and blessings on the new digs.

Indeed!!... that Bass Ale was brought to you by the good people of Manley Labs, Bomb Factory, ADAM Monitors, Empirical Labs, TransAmerica Audio Group... and our very own, ProSoundWeb.com... we just organized it.

Glad you had fun!!
