Title: Big rank peak at 128 hz

Hey guys -

My workspace is in a living room, rented house, you know the drill.

I have some decent treatments in the room, and I'm planning to pack some of Ethan's traps in there too - but I wonder about trying to tamp down this ringing loud peak at 128 first.  It's most apparent in my chair unfortunately.

What's a good solution?  Resonator of some sort?

Open to suggestions here

I don't know your room's dimensions, but 128 Hz seems to be the
typical ringing between floor and ceiling.
I'd put an appropriate hanging broadband (bass-) absorber on the
ceiling above your chair (4" and more) and (depending of the
room's height) play around with the absorber/ceiling distance
until it sounds (and probably measures) good.

Thanks guys, that's what I reckoned.

I have an absorber right above my head but I'm pretty sure it's not efficient (or massive) enough.

Since it's just the one frequency, does it make sense to use a resonant device of some sort?  Slot absorber?  Helmholtz?

Or should I just call Ethan and get one of his traps up there?

I'd first fill all the corners (possible) with rockwool (or 703) before building any tuned device.

I can only speak for my room, but to have a measurable effect in
my room a tuned absorber would have had about the same size as a
broadband absorber, so I went broadband.

Just to be clear, the traps my company sells are broadband, not tuned.

Good to see you back John, I hope things are going well for you since the fire.

I have the same rank peak which stuffs my acoustic guitar recordings, and I'm going to fix it with broadband absorption on the ceiling as Tom suggests.

My vertical corners are mostly killed already - using a variety of methods.

I think it's a matter of some realtraps products.

Ethan - thanks for responding - I know your products are broadband.

Will get in touch when the smoke clears on the current work - in the next 3-4 weeks.
