Title: say a prayer for me tonight
Post by: grantis on March 14, 2008, 02:38:39 AM
just got my car broken into....of all the windows to bust, they chose the most expensive one....with the defrost

it could've been worse, the jerkoff only got about half my stuff before he got spotted and drove off.  unfortunately, it was several hundred copies of my new album, of which i only had a thousand to begin with... along with....all of my other merch, and cash box and......ah CRAP!

don't know why i'm sharing this, just wanted to scream about it in digital form i guess.

ok bye.

That sucks Grant, really sorry to hear it-- I know first hand how frustrating theft is.

bad luck!!!

on the bright side, remember, unless he burns them, all those cd's will still exist somewhere in the universe and someone somewhere will be listening...

that sucks grant.

did he get any guitars?

my car was broken into a few days before moving to boston.

i had moved all my gear out of the studio i was free-lancing in and brought it all to my parents' house, along with all my stuff.

toward the end of the day, i was exhausted and decided to leave a few things in the car.  safe neighborhood, never had trouble before.

i was climbing out of the car, literally one foot in the car and i decided to take the blanket off my crane song STC-8 and carry it in.

the next morning i came outside to head to my last session and saw that my dbx sub harmonic synth was no longer in the back seat.

that's all he got cause i decided to not be lazy and carried in my STC-8 leaving only a 200 dollar piece in the car.

thieves SUCK.

Horrible. It sucks when it has to be something THAT personal.

Were you in for the night?

Not to make light of your situation, but rather to be empathetic to it. Someone broke into my car ripping off my radio and speaker box... while I was on stage playing a gig!

Damn, that really sucks Grant.  I hope your insurance takes care of the car... deductibles suck of course....

Not to make light of your loss... but could you maybe get a box or two of my cds stolen as well next time?  I have way too many on hand.. I could spare a few hundred.  J, you got any Secret Club discs?  Seems Grant could be onto a new promo business here...

Chin up, Grant... be thankful you weren't around, and nothing major was stolen (guitars, amps, etc...).   Gaaah I hate thieves.

wow,  looks like i'm in good company.  it's a shame that it's happened to a lot of people here too.

j...it was a lesson learned for sure. i think the thief saw the box for my new macbook (which had nothing but software discs in it) and decided he wanted it, along with whatever else he could grab.  i always assumed that my tinted windows would keep my gear safe, but obviously not.  i won't be leaving anything of value in my car anytime soon.

max...good point!  i told my friend chris that the thief is going to be an avid Grant Richard fan by the time he's done with my stuff.  hahahah.  he advised me to check eBay for my discs, and buy one from the thief to get his info.  not a bad idea Wink.

jason...no, it happened in the parking lot of a computer store.  i think the crook got scared away by it being BROAD FREAKING DAYLIGHT and being spotted by....plenty of people.  i too had a stereo (and a pair of hd-280's) stolen out of my car a few years back, and i promised myself to lock my car after that Smile.  now, i suppose it would be a good idea to just...well....leave my car empty.  was your car parked in a 'band' or 'backstage' area?

garret...i wouldn't trust a thief to distribute CD's, but i see your point.  i do continue to be grateful they left my pricey gear though.

i did forget to mention one thing...the guy had made a couple of trips before me apparently, starting with the stolen car he was driving.

I know the feeling well.  I empathize Grant.

I was looking out the window of the studio lounge a couple of months ago taking a break, when it hit me... whats missing from this picture?  MY VAN!  Some asshole had stolen my van in broad daylight right on the corner of two busy streets with tons of cars going by and pedestrians everywhere...

Thankfully they found the van a couple of weeks later about 20 blocks up the road, intact.  The cops said they figured some idiot was too lazy to walk up the hill...

Cost me a grand so that some junkie didn't have to walk up the hill.

yikes...at least you were able to recover the van.  did the police find it?  you said "they".

i consider the work the police are doing for me right now as 'retribution' for all the BS tickets i've paid.  i'm not holding out for hope too much on this one, but it would sure be nice to get at least the cash back.

having your forward progress in life stopped ALWAYS sucks.  but i always try to remember that i'm healthy and safe, and the bottom line is that only my stuff is gone, and stuff can be replaced or lived without.

i'm just glad you didn't take a crow-bar to skull.  i've sat by too many hospital bedsides, don't really want to sit next to yours.

yeah, as today wears on, i'm not too worried about what i lost.  the glass is being fixed as we speak, and life will certainly go on.

dooood...you're so sweet.

that's what's even more annoying...that your car wasn't even around a ton of people.

Yes, the police found it... or at least they claimed they found it... a more likely scenario is that someone complained about it being parked in their space or something... I doubt the cops were diligently checking plate numbers... I mean how would you be able to dip your donut in your coffee if you were looking out the window all the time?  Laughing

Agree with J 100% .  We must all be thankful for health and the ability to sleep in a warm bed etc.  It's these things (theft etc.) that help put everything into perspective.  A minor inconvenience compared to many less fortunate.
