Hi all, I'm wondering what everyone is doing in 2014 for receiving online and credit card payments. I've been using Authorize.net's merchant services, which has been fine, but I'm tired of paying an outrageous fee for PCI compliance certification every year. That and it's good to check around once in a while!

Happily using Square over the phone, but haven't bothered with anything integrated into the web.

I use the QuickBooks IPN system when possible. It's only $0.50 per transaction. Otherwise CC through the QB merchant services or PayPal.

Greg, is the IPN system different than the QB merchant service?

It looks like a way to get a direct transfer from the clients bank, that's pretty cool, I was looking for a way to do that last year.

PayPal web integration, PayPal, Square, Intuit "live" if needed.

Just got set up with the Intuit IPN system, if folks like it I'll probably use Intuit's credit card service too. I hope the bulk of payments can be done with the IPN, but we shall see. Thanks for the tips gents!

We've always used Paypal Pro/ Express.
That means Paypal accounts and all major credit cards via the Paypal Pro engine.
Express will avoid abandoned carts (although, it hasn't been as effective as they make it out to be etcc..)
You could also try eWay .. if there is an international connection.

So I've been happily using Intuits IPN service for the last year, but they've pulled the plug on it. In order to use their new setup, it requires Quickbooks Online or QB Win (monthly or upfront costs).
Currently I'm down to Paypal, cash & checks.
So, here we are in 2016 and I pose the question again. How are you getting paid? Anything convenient and cost effective you like?

Having multiple businesses, all of which require monetary transaction portals, I assure you, the devil you know [PayPal] is the most effective of them all. [humble experience]
Firstly, your customer is fickle too, unsure and unfairly vary of unknown branded portals [you could go around explaining to them 'they are safe', until the cows come home, but, all you do is loose them as customers, pre and post conversation], also the unknown portals will always have higher fees, because they themselves have higher transnational expenses on larger outreaches, plus Paypal has the most widespread user base, makes it a logical partner and their fees on average pan out to be the same as, or better than the others. Plus, they have the usual Credit Card facility and then their own Paypal users, which is what a whole lot of our customers use, around 68% of them to be precise etc..
So, there you have my 11cents, again.. 8)

I was liking Intuit's IPN, along with offering Paypal. I'm going to give Paypal a shot for a while and see how it goes. I definitely like how they keep track of transactions as opposed to batching like the merchants do. Makes reconciling way easier...

Paypal phone app, paypal swiper, or send paypal request/invoice. They can pay via credit card.

Lately what I have been doing is sending invoices through Paypal.
Braintree also looks pretty good if you want something integrated with your website or mobile devices.
