Thanks, Alecio. Here's the offical press release: PT SACD.

Does this mean anything? Does this help SACD further its marrket?

It may hurt the market in that it allows PCM content to be converted to DSD, SA-CD format. This means anyone can put anything, regardless of quality, onto a SACD, which come to think about it, is already being done.

Beyond surround applications, quality sound (ear of the beholder) is the big draw of SACD and DVD-A, and lack of quality will diminish that attraction. We all know that just because the sound is presented as 24 bit or equivilent doesn't mean it sounds good.

SACD has a bigger market share than DVD-A right now, but it is a very small market compared to CD. Jury's out.

Paul, why DVD-A is losing the game? Is it similar to the old war between VHS and Betamax? Isn´t dvd-A much easier to realize? WHat am I missing, besides big names behind the table?
