Mix sounds great-- very nicely done.

Too much kick.  Is that a double kick?  That is a terrible rhythm.  The mix sounds fine...a little dry here and there.  The vocals and guitars fight each other often.  But what I think you should be concerned about is the song.  Don't get discouraged, we all gotta start somewhere.  Good luck to you!

The guits sound a little dry and a little hollow. With the feel I think you're going for here I'd like to hear a little moisture in the VOX and more texture and body in the guits. I don't think the rythm is terrible, maybe just a little honing in that area. This is MP3 so I'm sure I'm missing some separation but the image is a little narrow. Nice composition on the song but I'd mix it up a bit. A little too straight foward.

Wow a terrible rhythm ?? thats the first time I've heard that one ! , sorry but not all things are liked by all listeners ( ya know the ole 4-4 1-3 just got BORING to me.

ANyhow thanks for the listen guys , this is  a rock song not indie so maybe this forum is the wrong place for this type of song ??? No offence taken just a curious response? .

Yeah, as we all know 7 posts on PSW don't mean squat.  Evil or Very Mad
Let alone 18 years in the industry. If you re-read my post I don't think I was slamming anything. Just a couple of notes.

i didn't say anything about your post.  in general, your post count can establish your level of contribution to the forums, and a very rough idea of how seriously i'll take your post.

funny that buzz gets slightly bent on what you typed about his tune, then you get bent about me pointing out your "REP credibility".

i don't seem to recall seeing you post in this thread.  which is my version of establishing your level of experience and skill set as it relates to any comments you might sling at some one else's work/art.

now.....every body simmer down.

Hey Ridge I had no problem with your response !! I had only mentioned Telejeff's comment . your reply  was very concise and to the point ( hell whatever is said , I stuck my neck out. If I can't take I should stay in my HOLE !!! )

Anyhow all's cool

Sounds good guys!

I presume this has yet to be mastered?

Post by: j.hall on July 14, 2006, 10:52:29 PM
it is not mastered, however i do use maxim on all my mp3's to bump the level up.  it's habit of mine for all the clients that complained about my mixes being "too quiet"

there is no more then 1dB of gain reduction on the limiter when i print the mp3.  it's simply for level.

It's going to sound sweet once it's mastered too.  Good stuff!

maxim is like L2 but it's free with your initial PT purchase.  i lower the threshold to just above the mix level to bump the level up.  an occasional kick hit will go past the threshold into gain reduction.  i make sure there is never more then 1 db of GR so the mix is simply louder, not compressed/limited.

Cool track, guys Smile

Somehow I feel it's not as tight as it could've been, though. I can't pinpoint the exact problem, but it might be the drums. Or the drummer, rather. The track doesn't feels as fluid as it should.
Maybe that's what Telejeff meant? Just a guess...

But, again, way cool song. Smile

Nice job, j.  My only significant complaints would be that I'd like to hear the snare slam a bit more, and I'd like to hear the guitar lead come up a dB or two.

Then again, I'm listening to an mp3 on crappy headphones, so what do I know?

J,
check out Steve Massey's stuff. www.masseyplugins.com

he's got an $89 limiter that will make you throw maxim away.

Can't remember if PT supports AU format plugs... if so, check this one out too... it's freeware, but pretty decent...  It's a multiband comp with brick wall limiting.
