Title: compressor on the mix bus. live.
Post by: judah on July 12, 2004, 03:21:57 AM
hi,
anyone of you use a compressor on the mix buss during your live gig? lately I started using a RNC and found it to be very usefull especially with the crappy PA I have to deal with most of the time. I have the kick pulling about 2dB, supernice mode.
anyone?

Which compressor? Usually whatever I have at my disposal. I don't do much live work anymore but when i do it's usually a DBX unit of some sort whether it be a set of 160as, 1066 (yeah really), a driverack or some other pieces of shit. On the other end of things I've used trakkers, 1178s, and an RNC run through a line balancer. I'm not as picky in live clubs as in the studio, hell, even the 1066 will do. Sometimes killing a lot of out of hand transients is what is required.

In London Ontario there's a small venue with a pair of LA4s that I've had fun with for this app. No need to worry 'bout stereo though, 'cause the PA's in mono. I'll A/B the two & pick the one that seems to be doing it for me that night.
