Call me crazy, but I love the optic multi band compressor on the Mixmaster. It reduces the freq's without softening them. Then at the same time it gives the track a more musical sound that I just love. I am looking for a high end compressor that would do that but better. No it does not have to be multiband. I am working getting to demo the Pend ES-8 and Manley MU. I have a feeling the ES-8 may be more of what I am looking for. Perhaps the OCL 2 may do the job. However I was told their other compressor is very transparent and is not musical from some people.
What do you think would be a good 2 bus compressor that would not soften the music much but be musical?

2 x Tube-Tech CL1B does the job very well. Yes the Focusrite optical compressor isn't too bad.

Hey, the Mixmaster is a favourite guilty pleasure of mine...
I agree with the Tube-Techs, but I think you'll find the Vari-Mu
very close in character to the Focus on occasion (but more er, robust)

Just got the Mixmaster back in my studio. I found myself smiling a lot when using it. No it's not a high end piece of gear with tons of flexibility, but it does make mixes sound a little more analog sounding, polished, and it gels the music quite well. I am using it in Wavelab as an external effect. I find I use my Langevin Mini Massive for high's and lows and the Mixmaster for the mid's if needed. The nicest thing of course is the optic compressor. Still I would love a Manley MU instead.

is the same optical compressor in any other focusrite boxes ie: twin pack... etc?

From what I have heard the answer is no. It was specifically designed for the mastering box. Of course it is a 3 band compressor which I like for mastering since you can control high's mid's and low threshold's.
