Title: Dynaudio BM6 orAir Series for 5.1 ,2.0 Lipinskis 505, BeW 802s
Post by: Alécio Costa - Brazil on April 05, 2009, 02:59:46 AM
Hi,

I am currently using Dynaudio BM6As for 2.0 . I was advised to skip the jump to BM15As. I have seen the Dynaudio C4s as well as the Air 15/12/6.

a) Is there anyone here using these models for mastering? (Dynaudio C4s, Air 6/12/15)

b) Should I upgrade to the BM Air 15/12/6 series if I intend to pick a 5.1 rig for mastering?

c) Instead, Would it be a good idea to pick a 5.1 rig with the regular BM6As and further pick a stereo pair of fancier monitors (Lipinski 505, Dynaudio C4s, BeW 802)?

c)Are you guys using different brands for 2.0 and 5.1?

To me seems prohibitive picking a 5.1 rig of of BeW 802s or 707/505 Lipinskis .

Mostly of what I do is 2.0 but now I"m starting to get 5.1 requests.

Thanks for any info!

I wouldn't want to rely on a ported design such as the air series for 2.0 mastering unless I had to.
Mixing is another thing.  The C4, 802, and 707 would serve you much better imo in a 2.0 mastering.

If you are just doing a couple 5.1 gigs a year.  It might be better to sink your money into a good stereo set and a cheaper satellite set until the 5.1 gigs can justify paying for a good full range 5.1 system.

So, If your room is set up dedicated to mastering I would go with C).
But if you have a multi-function room,  I wouldn't bother with the higher end speakers as your main set.

I think the C4's see regular use in dedicated mastering. The AIR series, not so much.

Thanks, Tom!
I have been doing 75% mastering and 25% rec-mix-production.

Curiously, one of the top local mastering houses uses Air for 5.1.

So seems the C4s are fine? Anyone else using them? I remember someone mentioning them in 2006 at this forum.

SO I will probably pick a 5.1 rig with the regular BM6As ( have a pair) and save for the C4s or Lipinskis 707 for the better 2.0 set.

BTW.. I have just checked... Chris Athens and Leon Zarvos use the Dynaudio C4s at Sterling Sound.

Any inputs are greatly welcomed!

There has been lots of mixed opinions concerning the Lipinskis 505 and 707: thin on bass, too airy, boxy for the 505s...

Anyone here using the Dynaudio AIR25, PSI, Klein Hummel, PMC and  Quested ?
