I have a real problem with the whole concept of patriotism.  Am I supposed to care more about this country than the others?  I mean, I love the US, but I also love Germany, Canada, France, Holland, and I care just as much about the well being of people in Nepal as the ones in Detroit.  The world's too small for patriotism.
How about a patriotism of planet earth?
