I was recommended the following book and have found it a most cogent analysis of the mess we're in:

Spontaneous Evolution
Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D.
Steve Bhaerman
Hay House, Inc. 2009

The authors are a cell biologist and a political commentator.  Their wide-ranging explanation of why our political system has failed and how to fix it might change the discussions around here (and elsewhere.)

Looks interesting.
Although to be honest I don't think it's all that complicated or difficult to see or understand.
