Title: Checking Sites for Stolen Images
Post by: masterhse on January 25, 2011, 12:40:07 PM
I ran into this site and thought that it might be useful for anyone wanting to see if another site is using images from their studio: http://www.tineye.com

Best,
Tom

Great site, thanks for posting it! I just found some brasilian mastering studio used to use my image. Seems they recently changed it though.

I have found that Google images will show more results and much quicker.

Google won't show you if someone stole a particular image and used it on their own web site -- This does (within reason).

There's a right-click plug for Firefox users also...   Cool

There's also a plug for Chrome, Safari, and IE.

John, did you find any matches? I know that you've had issues in the past with stolen images.

Surprisingly, no -- Not yet...

That said - (A) I've watermarked most of them to death, (B) I've only checked a few, (C) Lately, people have been linking to them directly (stealing my bandwidth as well).

Been having some fun with that at times..

You can use it for good effect. Make a new picture link for your own site, update your web pages and replace the hot linked picture with something going like "I AM A THIEVING IDIOT HOT LINKING IMAGES FROM OTHER PEOPLES SITES", or worse. There is also an abundance of nauseating images on the net that you can use to make them look truly bad..

if your webhost uses apache (im 90% sure, 75% of everyone here does) you can use mod_rewrite so no one can hotlink to your images.

PM me and i can help anyone set it up

My studio pics are not at all very flashy so never had a problem with this. Though someone did copy/paste all pricing including the
font and exact spacing. That is pretty lazy not to mention bizarre.

It's great being out on the internet but you are open to abuse too.
