Title: looking for ideas for studio design
Post by: Ryan Leigh Patterson on March 18, 2010, 10:42:39 PM
It's been a long time since I've been on PSW....
Getting a "real" job (i.e I had to leave the music biz), having a kid and buying a house have left me with precious time for recording.  That being said, I've finally ended up with a suitable space for my own studio - yeah!

It's cement block garage in my backyard (a rarity in Toronto!)

21 X 21 ft with a cottage style roof 8 feet tall at the base and 14 feet at the peak (those will be the interior dimensions accounting for 6 inches wall and ceiling sound proofing structure.

I'm not quite sure about how to go about designing the control room and live room dimensions along with a 4x4 ft furnace/ac room.  Any suggestions?

I've done a few rough sketches and plugged some of the numbers into an acoustics calculator, but most of the terms are Greek to me.

Your help is much appreciated!

Maybe you could post your sketches? Would help us give you the right advice...

Looking for a LR/CR config or a 1 room studio?

So many options... you need to define your objectives better.. Large control room... max size recording room... what type of equipment setup do you use... what type of monitoring situation... etc..

Give us some more info..
