Title: Bass Players
Post by: profesrgeo on March 05, 2005, 06:41:51 AM
Hi Terry,

First of all let me thank you for sharing your insights, expertise and all the great stories.

I am lucky enough to get to spend some time with Donald "Duck" Dunn, Daryl Jones, Joe Osborn, Jerry Scheff and Bob Glaub next week at a Lakland Bass event.

I was wondering if you (or anyone else here) knew any of these guys and could share some stories/insights into their careers.

Thanks in advance

In 1992 I worked with Bob Glaub on an R&B track replacing a pre-sequenced Minimoog part with his p-bass. He had a tremendous sense of time and his tone was impeccable. He is one of those players who cause you to have an epiphany of such clarity and  depth - as you realize that it's ALL in his fingers. Preamp, DI, limiter, EQ.. really doesn't matter- those concerns are akin to worrying about Halle Berry's shoelace color. The funny thing was, he complemented me on getting his bass to sound better than he had heard it before... It was a nice tone, but I swear I had very little to do with it..!  On second thought, perhaps after spending years making lesser bass players sound as good as these guys, you get a chance to plug them in and suddenly  the whole song lights up.

Have fun!

Hey Doc,

Are you the same Doc over on Carol's forum?
If so, thanks for some great advice on my Jazz.

I had some neck issues and you suggested i unstring
it for a while and let nature take its course.
Worked great, i did have to snug up the rod a bit,
but so far so good.

anyway, i never got a chance to say thanks before
Carol changed her forum thing around.

Sorry, now back to the regularly scheduled thread....

Paul

Sorry, different Docs.....must be a paradox....I do get up on her forum and she is a good friend,......but no sane person would want jazz advice from me.

I never said i was sane.... Smile
and for sure Carol is very cool!

I was not familiar with Mo Foster, though.
Thanks for the link to his site,
(speaking of a nice J-Bass....wow!)

and sorry for the mix-up.

Cheers,
