Title: has anyone tried Moby transformers?
Post by: soapfoot on May 27, 2022, 06:16:19 AM
No affiliation; this winder in Serbia has been making some pretty interesting-looking reproductions of some of the harder-to-find vintage mic transformers.

Reviews over on GroupDIY have been very, very positive, and he's been over there as well documenting some of his process repairing, rewinding, and reverse-engineering some of these rare transformers.

He's just repaired and reverse-engineered the old Rohde and Schwarz V2545, which was the transformer in some early C12s (including the two best-sounding C12s I've ever personally heard).

I hope he can get enough interest to bring that one into production. He's just recently added transformers for the C12A, the C414-EB and C414-EB-P48.

I can only say good things about Moby and his work and dedication.

His transformers are the best Neumann replacement transformers out there.
Being it to replace in an original vintage microphone or to use in your own build you can be safe that you are getting the best transformer possible.

What personal experience have you had with these transformers (please see the Forum "Ground Rules" why I ask that question).
Thanks.

I'll have a pair of his V2545 recreations soon and can report back.

Yes!!

The V2545 recreations are outstanding. I have not done a swap against an original in the same microphone, but I can confirm that they are more than satisfactory and I ended up with microphones that sound and perform even better than I’d hoped.
