Title: Dangerous Master and Monitor...any users
Post by: Glenn Bucci on February 28, 2013, 10:19:03 PM
These units look like great options for a mastering studio. Anyone out there use them, what are your thoughts? What do you use for metering?
Thanks

Hi Glenn-

I have used the Dangerous Master for a few years now and just picked up the Monitor few weeks back. Great system. I have a pair of Crookwood Vu's. Will add an AES meter soon

How do you connect the metering to the Dangerous system? I assume the metering is connected to an output of the mastering unit..which one?

Hi Glenn, I have the Dangerous system too, including the Master, Monitor, and MQ (meters and headphone amp). The Monitor has analog and digital feeds for meters. If you look at the Dangerous website there is a photo of the rear panel of the Monitor where you can see the connections.

Thanks for the reply. I am disappointed Dangerous no longer makes the MQ anymore. It looks great

I heard Dangerous might be coming out with a new meter box.

Well, I know this post has been cooling off for a while, but I just started reading the mastering section, and thought I'd add a note.

I am just a home recordist, who strives to put his resources into a few select pieces of quality gear rather than tons of "consumer grade" solutions which lead to frustration or low sound quality. Before buying a monitor st, I kept thinking bout all the pre-amps, mics, or compressors I would be delaying by getting a $2000 (plus) monitor switching device.

I will simply say I have never regretted it for a moment, and I don't begin to exploit the features like talk back, aux input, LFE subwoofer options, etc. Just basic switching between four inputs and three outputs, muting L or R, mono on touch, and a level control. It has saved me tons of hassles and for that alone it's worth it.

dangerously yours,

D

Using Master, Liaison and Monitor ST with DAC-ST here.  Couldn't be happier for these.

Monitor ST user, no external metering here, works like a charm and the remote has extreme sex appeal ;)
