Title: Tracking to One Brand of Tape, Mixing to Another
Post by: burns46824 on May 24, 2011, 10:45:56 AM
I've heard of some engineers tracking to one brand of tape and mixing to another.  Anyone have experience with this?  Any conspicuous benefit?

Armin Steiner turned me on to doing that. The benefit is less generation loss.

How does that work (sincere question, this is an interesting one)? Is the thought that since each tape will have a different frequency response, that the resulting loss will be averaged somehow?
