Title: Martech MSS10 for acoustic instruments
Post by: acupunk on July 15, 2007, 10:57:17 AM
I have heard flether like this mic pre, it is very clean and musical.
It is very pricey at almost $2000 for 1 channel.
I am looking for a good mic pre to record acoustic instruments
banjo mando guitar etc. would it be better to invest in one channel of a
really good mic pre like this one or for a liitle more get a pendulum MDP1-a
or something alike for not much more?
where you get 2 channels of a mic pre to record acoustic instruments.

The Martech has a very fine reputation.  May I suggest that before you buy anything in this kind of class that you check out Gordon Instruments (http://www.gordonaudio.com).  The single channel Model 4 goes for $1800 but the Model 5 offers two channels for $2900.00  Either way you'll get wonderful, clean, musical mic pres,  And tho' they are possibly less well known than some others they are quite possibly the best preamp made.

I talk about them all the time because I believe in their quality -- enough so that I own 4 units (8 channels).  And I have owned quite a number of other preamps in my time (although not Martech).

Good luck in your hunt.
