Title: TexMex tune, are vocals up enough? please critique
Post by: wavdoctor on January 05, 2007, 08:05:57 AM
Would really appreciate some feedback here, unmastered track.
Mostly concerned about the main Vocal..legible? up a tad?
Thanks, Track is called the "Great El Tigre" re-recorded from a 1960's release.

Stylish stuff..

Yah, I think I'd like to hear the vocal up a touch in the verses... it's okay in the chorus when the bgs kick in.

Maybe I've just been listening to too much early Elvis, but I think stuff like this needs priority to the vocalist.

I agree with Garret.  Lead vox could be up a tad, say 2db?, and perhaps a touch brighter too (just a touch)

Sounds good Harry!

i wouldn't have turned the vocal up at all.

the whole mix sounded very smooth and well balanced to me.

i wouldn't change a thing.

Love the recording Harry!

It seems you've got the instruments pretty much panned to the sides which I would guess has left you with much space for the lead vox in the center...good for you!  Smile   I think it sounds great as it is but depending what you want you could just leave it as it is...or put a couple of dB on the top where it fits, perhaps squeeze it a bit and raise it a couple of dB.

Guess you've heard Raul Malo? I generally like the way his vox is presented and I'm sure the same treatment would work here as well.

The only things I feel are a tiny bit negative are the outro trumpets...they sound a lot like Midi....

Well done!
