I am pleased to now have a MP in the rack, awesome equipment and I have not thought of any other kit purchases other than this for quite some time. I am completely stoked by it. Will be getting to grips with it soon, band interaction is very interesting. Pass through is sublime.

after five years, I still discover new sounds. great box, when used subtle. don't forget to trying bypass the transformers by hooking it up unbalanced. more clear sky to be seen!

I'm in the camp that loves this EQ. Mine gets used quite a bit here.
I'd suggest hooking it up to something to see the EQ curves as you adjust them. You'd be pretty surprised what those low and high shelves do at different frequency choices. Especially the differences between 22 and 33Hz, and 12k, 16k, and 27kHz. Bizarre!
I find myself using the 12k shelf a lot. And it's the best EQ I have for doing very gentle pushes over a large area of frequencies. I'm not sure what the actual Q is at low amounts of boost, but it feels huge.
Not a great EQ for surgery, but one of my favorite big paint brushes.

When I first picked one up it frustrated me when I knew what I wanted to dial in and the MP had other ideas. Now I love the curves and beyond.

Cool, I agree with all the above (with my current limited experiences with it a few ... "what is going on in the mids, when I am boosting air ???" moments) The manual elucidates to a degree but it cannot replace the actual use of the machine and I think it will take some time but time I will enjoy greatly. Till then gentle wide tweaks will be the order of the day, I am pretty at home with it when it's smaller tweaks. A few oddities to get ones head around but my word it is a slayer.
The pass through so far is gorgeous, classy.
Hats off to all the people involved with making this equalizer.

I have been filtering digitally till now, I have been advised to check the filters out by others too. And also investigate the Baxandall shelves. It's deep, you really feel like you got your moneys worth with this device. Glad I held out on the saving and did not blow it on other gear just to satisfy gearlust.

I have a non-mastering version of the Massivo and don't find the HPF's useful for much. YMMV.
So far, the Bax has the best and most useable analog HPF I've heard. But I do really like the 18K LPF on the Massivo. It's got a nice little bump to it.

Pleased for you Barry, sounds like you'll have fun with this one for a while yet.
The MP is one of the few parallel analogue EQs, isn't it? - also the Gyratec XIV. Must take a while to get one's head around things like bands not adding the way we expect.
Agree with Twerk re. Bax HPF.

Thanks Nigel, like almost all kit it takes time to comprehend and get into. The parallel nature and interaction makes it quite unique, just doing a few tweaks with it currently, till I get time to delve deeper. Have to go easy with it at first cause it sounds so sweet.This is defo gonna be great at cutting harshness in a natural way.
You know I was seriously thinking G14 for a while, I am sure it's great eq. But the way the stars aligned meant the Massive Passive was for me. The built quality is absolutely second to none you can see MANLEY take deep pride in making this kit, it's like something from an aircraft flight deck, sure, reassuring and produces results.
Yeah, I tried the 22Hz filters but found a kick in a house track lost too much subs for this clients taste (so did not use it knowing they like their beefy bottom, who don't ?), it was surprisingly extreme for being 22Hz. Could work for some severe problem solving but not for dance music methinks.

Of note the 22Hz HPF is in place on a track I am working on now, spot on for it, horses for courses as they say and also the 18kHz LPF too. Already getting a hell of a lot of use, hardly been switched off in working hours so far.

Those filters are handy when you really need them, but mostly they are idle on my MP. The variable Q on the shelves is genius.

Thanks Jerry, the guy obviously had deep skills to produce this EQ, it's details like that MANLEY making virtually every inductor/transformer for this unit themselves.

All the positive vibes for the MP, I've been thinking about adding Langevin Mini-Massive. Anyone here running one care to comment on how you're getting along with it?

Hiya I was considering it myself but in the end it had to be the MP or nothing, the difference in price this side of the water makes it worthwhile. I think the overall euphonic pass through character of this unit with the valve amplifier stage and transformers is an added bonus.
They had a really excellent price in the USA on the mini recently on ebay, brand new ones for around £1.600.00 but the import duty + VAT in the UK is a bit of a killer but if you are in the USA then they are quite decent value.

Before this, did you ever use the UAD versions, and if YES, then, what are your thoughts now, on the difference etc..
Cause that’s where, I’ll start and if lucky, move onto the real deal.

Was working on a song today when I discovered the magic (for this song) that was the 560Hz hi-shelf (yeah! all the way down there), bandwidth @ 0. What an incredible sounding tilt that can be for upper mids and highs. It even gently massages the lower mids. Never heard anything like that.
never gone give my mp up, never gone let it down, never gonna run around and desert my mp.

We have stopped the LANGEVIN brand completely. A few products have found their way into Manley-land. There is a limited run of Manley Mini Massive EQs available right now in our export markets.

Interesting news on the Langevin badge. I'm glad to see the Mini and some others have been rebranded, at least. Feel free to share any news here on the changes to the lines.
